Upon invitation of Administration of Free Economic Zone “Gomel-Raton”, on October 12 – 13 representatives of Rēzekne SEZ Authority participated in event “Business Days in Gomel” organized by Belarus Chamber of Trade and Commerce and Free Economic Zone “Gomel-Raton”. Representatives of Rezekne SEZ Authority Supervisory Board and Executive institution on October 4 – 6 visited Republic of Belarus, to acquire new experience in investment attraction and functioning of special economic zones as well as to get acquainted with newest development tendencies in area of transport and logistics. In scope of the visit the representatives of Rezekne SEZ visited International Exhibition "Transport and Logistics”, as well as FEZ “Vitebsk”, FEZ “Minsk” and China-Belarus Industrial Park “Great Stone”.
In comparison with the special economic zones I had turned to, before making the final decision where to start up a business, RSEZ Authority was very responsive and helpful. The Authority provided a feedback that is important to any entrepreneur.
My former experience of doing business in Latvia and other countries proves that there is both the necessity and opportunity to establish a large scale logistics park near the EU border with Russia. Rail connection is an essential part of such an operation and therefore Rēzekne was the best option.
When the decision to build a wood pellet plant in Latvia was made, the decision to locate that plant in Rēzekne City was made for a number of compelling reasons. Firstly, with Rēzekne being in a special economic zone, this provided good business incentives that will enhance our return on investment.
