Company “VEREMS” celebrates the 20th anniversary

One of the largest manufacturing companies of the Rezekne region "VEREMS" RSEZ SIA celebrated its 20th anniversary in the beginning of 2016. The company is a subsidiary of the joint stock company AS “Latvijas Finieris” (“Latvian Plywood”) with specialisation in logging, woodworking, log purchasing and wholesale.

Since 1996, established as a veneer log purchasing point, "VEREMS" has turned into a modern production plant, a major employer in the region and in Latvia, an example of a successful, sustainable, and socially responsible business, and a reliable business partner.

Since 2007, the factory manufactures a unique product – large-size birch plywood for the export to the EU countries, Japan and the United States. The forecasted growth of the company’s turnover was 5 million euros, and total annual turnover was 30 million euros in 2015.

The company “VEREMS” has received the Annual Award of the Latvian Employers’ Confederation as the best employer in Latgale in 2015, as well as the Green Excellence Award by the State Environment Service. At the same time, on 4 May 2015, on the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, Janis Staris, the Chairman of the Board of the company, was appointed as the Officer of the Cross of Recognition for his noteworthy contribution to the development of Latvian economy, and to the woodworking industry particularly, and for the promotion of Latvia’s image abroad.

The company has been granted various municipal awards multiple times, has received the title “RSEZ Company of the Year” in range of categories, including “Manufacturer of the Year”, “The Biggest Tax Payer”, “Investments of the Year”, “Innovation of the Year”, “The Fastest Developing Company” in the competitions organized annually by RSEZ. In 2014, the company has received the annual award of the woodworking sector “The Golden Cone” for innovative business.

On the day of the 20th anniversary, 12 January 2016, manufacturing at the factory "VEREMS" was temporarily suspended to celebrate together with more than 320 employees offering the concert and the birthday cake. In their speeches, the top managers of the companies “Latvijas Finieris” and “VEREMS” repeatedly highlighted that success of business is based on an individual – an employee who drives the processes to ensure three essential core values of the business – resources, technologies, and market.

Janis Ciems, the Chairman of the board of AS “Latvijas Finieris”, has expressed confidence that a lot of anniversaries are still awaiting in the future, and the company's success story will depend on the future employees and business partners, who perhaps at this stage even do not know that their knowledge and work will be paid right to this enterprise, in accordance with its traditions and honouring the values established during the first twenty years of its operations.
