Latgale Centenary Congress takes place

Commemorating the hundredth anniversary of historically significant Latgale Congress of 1917, on May 5 and 6 Latgale Centenary Congress and 4th World Gathering of Latgalians took place in Rēzekne. Representatives of Rēzekne SEZ enterprises and Rēzekne SEZ Authority also participated in the Congress, discussing the economic growth and development of entrepreneurship in Latgale region.

On the first day of the Congress, on May 5 solemn plenary session took place with a participation of the President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis, the Speaker of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece and the Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis. During the solemn plenary session questions on the historical significance of the Latgale Congress of 1917 as well as on the future development of Latgale region were discussed. Meanwhile on May 6 work of the Latgale Centenary Congress was organized in several sections where debates on the topics of development of the economy of Latgale region, Latgalian language and education policy, history and media took place.

In section “Potentials of the development of Latgale region economy and entrepreneurship” its participants – entrepreneurs, researchers and representatives of state and municipal institutions, including the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Kaspars Gerhards and members of the Saeima – discussed the accessibility of labour force, development of public infrastructure, as well as the importance of regional aid for the development of entrepreneurship. In scope of this section the CEO of Rēzekne SEZ Sandra Ežmale delivered a presentation on Rēzekne SEZ, taking a look back at what Rēzekne SEZ has achieved in 20 years and emphasizing the input of Rēzekne SEZ in the development of Latgale region.
